Advancing antiracism, diversity, equity and inclusion in STEMM organizations

Highlights from the National Academies report "Advancing Antiracism, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in STEMM Organizations: Beyond Broadening Participation"

Nov. 27, 2023 | Duration: 1 hr. 9 mins.

Every individual, regardless of race, ethnicity or country of origin, deserves the opportunity to pursue an education or career in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine (STEMM) in a welcoming, supportive and antiracist environment. Yet, despite considerable investments to increase diversity, equity and inclusion in STEMM organizations, substantial barriers continue to produce systematically inequitable opportunities and outcomes. The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine developed a consensus report, titled "", that synthesizes the existing body of research on antiracism, diversity, equity and inclusion (ADEI) in STEMM organizations and provides guidance and a set of recommendations for stakeholders across the STEMM enterprise to build ADEI into existing systems.

Join us to explore the report's key takeaways and their relevance to graduate students and postdocs. This webinar features study author Julie Posselt and study editor Emily Vargas and is moderated by Teresita Padilla–Benavides, assistant professor of molecular biology and biochemistry at Wesleyan University and member of ASBMB’s Maximizing Access Committee (MAC).

This webinar was co-organized by scientific societies committed to enhancing the professional development of early-career scientists. The event was hosted by the ͵ÅÄ͵¿ú and ͵ÅÄ͵¿ú Biology, with media partners American Chemical Society, American Geophysical Union, American Physical Society, American Society for Cell Biology and Professional Development Hub.
