Create A Fantasy Contest!

Knit or Crochet! Felted or not! Animal, Vegetable, or Mineral! Use your imagination to adapt a pattern or create your own. This stitching contest is inspired by books like Harry Potter, Chronicles of Narnia, The Never Ending Story, and The Last Unicorn. Create a motif for a sweater, a castle diorama, a dragon toy… The only restriction is that it is fantasy inspired and knit or crocheted. You may enter as many creations as you choose.

All entries must be submitted to The Gifted Purl by Mid-Summer’s Night (June 22, 2008), and must remain in the store until winners are announced in August. The winners will be chosen by customer ballot. Chicago style voting – you may vote as often as you like, however one ballot per visit.

All participants will have their work featured on our web-site. Prizes are:

Most Outstanding Overall – $100.00 gift certificate

Most Fantastical (best representation of fantasy) – $30.00 gift cert.

Funniest – $30.00 gift certificate

Most Beautiful – $30.00 gift certificate

A Stitcher You Should Know

Maria is our “Stitcher of the Month”. She Quilts! She Crochets! She Knits! She teaches crochet at “the Purl”, and recently demonstrated Tunesian Crochet at the Original Sewing and Quilting Expo in St. Charles. Many of our crocheted models, at the roids store, were made by Maria. She designs crocheted items and has even had a pattern published! Maria likes motorcycles (specially Vespas!) , spinach pizza, and maintaining close relationships with her many, many, many friends. All of us at “the Purl” are very thankful to Maria for all she has done for us and for the shop.
